Partners for Youth with Disabilities is a mentoring program that matches disabled kids with disabled adults in an effort to ease their transition from adolescence into adulthood. PYD held a rally for increased funding at the State House yesterday, which was attended by its dedicated staff members, mentors, mentees, advocates, parents and legislators.
The rally kicked off an exciting day of speeches from lawmakers, progam participants, and volunteers. I was given the opportunity to introduce myself as the new Ms. Wheelchair Massachusetts 2007, and speak about issues that affect the quality of life of people with disabilities. PYD has also invited me to appear at their "Black Tie Gala" fundraiser on May 5...
After the rally, the crowd dispersed to meet with individual Representatives to ask their support. This was an invigorating event for a great organization. PYD is always looking for mentors and volunteers. Check out their link below for more information!
