We all know how important it is to have health insurance. Next week, Congress will decide if four million uninsured children from low-income working families should have health insurance through the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). I believe they should -- and I hope you do too.
Advocates are traveling to Washington, D.C. in the next few days to join hundreds of Easter Seals staff, volunteers and clients who know how critical this legislation is for our children. They plan to storm Capitol Hill next Tuesday to ask all members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to vote to override President Bush’ s recent veto of SCHIP legislation. The House of Representatives has scheduled a vote to override the SCHIP veto on Thursday, October 18th, so the timing couldn’t be better.
If this legislation becomes law, those four million children will continue to be covered … and an additional four million children will join the ranks of the insured. I know every supporter can’t be in Washington, D.C. next week, but you can be there in spirit.
Lend children from low-income and working families your voice. Visit Easter Seals’ SCHIP Action Alert page to contact your elected officials. Urge them to vote to override the president’s veto and sustain this valuable program.
